#After yang movie#
The movie is a huge expansion of the book and breaks into entirely new territory. Just got back from watching it (again) at an early screening. The moral of the story if you want to see After Yang and don't have a ticket: check next Friday to see if it gets an extra showing. I have no idea how Sundance chooses which eight films get an extra screening. If enough of us vote for After Yang, it could win there as well. [on edit: Again, I'm a Sundance newbie and don't know if this is a possibility, BUT: the audience gets to vote for audience favorites, which are also recognized. I watched the premier, but I'd like to see it again, sooner rather than later. I wouldn't encourage anyone to gamble that much money if a "prizewinner" is different from an "awards winner." I also don't know if it will be possible to buy single tickets for awards winner screenings.īut if no one can supply definitive information, it's painless enough to check the website on the 28th and see if you can score a ticket. The Awards Winners Package, which you can buy now, is $300. If there are any Sundance veterans here who could clarify that point, please weigh in. But you might want to check back when the awards list is announced to see if After Yang gets a screening. Sloan prizewinners on awards weekend? There may be a distinction between "special prizes" and "awards " I only note that the APS prize has already been announced, so maybe it doesn't qualify. I am a Sundance newbie and I do NOT know the answer to that question. The question to be clarified is whether that will qualify it for an awards screening. Sloan Prize for best use of science or technology. After Yang has already been announced as the winner of the Alfred P. Earnest and profound, it'll be hard to forget.Sundance will screen eight award-winning films on the 29th and 30th, with the award winners to be announced on Friday the 28th at 4:00 p.m. I'm really pleased with After Yang and want to rewatch it again. Though the film may end on a note that doesn't work for everyone, I think it ends at the perfect moment. I really want to read the short story now. As everything progresses, it's hard not to be mesmerized by the topics and story as a whole. Sometimes the pacing falls flat within scenes. We're piecing details and thoughts together just as much as they are. The film is never too on the nose or explains everything to the audience.

Most of his dialogue is poetic and adds so much to his character. Min as Yang only has a few scenes but his presence is felt throughout.

Once we find out the full story, it's emotional and profound. We slowly learn who she is and how she fits into this story.

Hayley Lu Richardson does well in her smaller role. The complexity of managing a different persona from actual growing feelings is hard to convey with what the film deals with. Colin Farrell has a difficult character to play. The cinematography is stunning, popping with life and great production design. He has the vision of what we should be looking at specifically, even if it's not the focus of the scene, and it all flows together nicely. Another thing I loved is the camera placement throughout. At first it feels like your mind processed the scene wrong but quickly you'll pick up on that. Little things repeat and change to bring out the correct portrayal. Kogonada writes and execute this memories much like how our mind process them. Filled to the brim with beautiful moments, everything is bittersweet and sentimental. It plays heavy on the ethics of life and technology leaving us to wonder if an A. Firstly, the script, based on a short story, is incredibly thought provoking. Foreign to his style and skills, I found his work to be masterful. I haven't seen Columbus but it's become a must see in the indie feature selection from the past few years.

After Yang is Kogonada's second feature after Columbus.
